Infernal Mages are found in several locations throughout OSRS, with the most common being the Slayer Tower and the Kourend Catacombs. To engage them, you’ll need at least 45 Slayer and 55 Magic, as well as some protective gear to minimize their damage output.
Infernal Mages Gear Setup
- Weapon: Magic is the most effective combat style against Infernal Mages. Use the highest-level magic weapon you can afford, such as the Trident of the Swamp, or you can opt for a Staff of the Dead, Iban’s Staff, or the Slayer Dart spell if you have the required levels.
- Armor: Wear magic-based armor like Mystic robes, Ahrim’s robes, or Void Knight equipment. This will provide magic attack and defense bonuses.
- Prayer: Protect from Magic can be used to reduce incoming damage.
- Food: Bring high-healing food, such as sharks or better, as Infernal Mages can deal significant damage if not protected properly.
- Teleport: It’s a good idea to bring teleport runes or tablets in case you need to escape.
Killing Infernal Mages
- Equip your magic gear and activate Protect from Magic prayer to reduce incoming damage.
- Attack the Infernal Mages using your chosen magic attack method. Cast spells or use your magic weapon to attack them.
- Watch out for their special attack: Infernal Mages can cast “Weaken,” which can reduce your Strength, Attack, and Defense levels. Keep an eye on your stats and restore them as needed.
- Collect the drops. Infernal Mages drop various items, including runes, herbs, and noted herbs if you are on a Slayer task.

Infernal Mages have several notable drops, including:
- Runes (air, water, earth, fire, chaos, death, blood)
- Grimy herbs (guam, marrentill, tarromin, etc.)
- Coins
- Occult necklace (rare)
- Mystic smoke staff (rare)
Additional Tips
- Infernal Mages can cast their special attack quite frequently, so be prepared to restore your reduced stats, especially if you’re not using Protect from Magic.
- Using the Magic Prayer Book spell “Humidify” can be useful for converting noted herbs into potions while on the task.
Killing Infernal Mages can be a profitable Slayer task, especially if you receive the rare drops like the Occult necklace or Mystic smoke staff. Be sure to have the Protect from Magic prayer active to reduce incoming damage, and bring high-healing food to ensure a smooth and efficient kill.
