Starting the Quest
- Begin the Misthalin Mystery quest by talking to Abigale, the widow, in her house located east of Varrock, near the bridge. She’ll tell you about the mysterious murder of her husband, Herquin.
Investigating the Crime Scene
- Head to Herquin’s house, which is just west of Abigale’s house. Investigate the crime scene by searching the chest, bookcase, and table.
Interrogating the Suspects
- Talk to each of the four suspects in Varrock:
- Rat Burgiss (in the pub)
- Bob (in the Varrock square)

- Use the tinderbox on the wooden branch to get a charred branch.
- Use the charred branch on the furnace in Varrock to get a key-shaped branch.
- Attach the key-shaped branch to a rope to create a rope ladder.
- Visit the limestone mine northwest of Varrock, equip your pickaxe, and mine some limestone.
- Use the limestone on the furnace to get quicklime.
- Combine the quicklime with the barrel in the limestone mine to create a barrel of quicklime.
- Use the barrel of quicklime on the broken glassblowing pipe to get a molten glass.
- Use the molten glass on the glassblowing pipe to create a glass lens.
- Combine the glass lens with the rope ladder to create a magnifying glass.
Solving the Mystery
- Return to the crime scene in Herquin’s house and use the magnifying glass on the clues in the room.
